Choir

The "IRMOS" choir of St. Joseph the Betrothed Parish is a newly resurrected choir made up of parishoners of all generations. The choir was organized in early 2007 with the initiative of Fr. Pavlo Hayda and choir director/cantor Marko Krutiak. The word "IRMOS" is a liturgical term which comes from the Greek verb "to tie" or "to link." This name is apporpriate when it comes to our choir and the eastern liturgical tradition: we help link the faithful to the heavens through song in the liturgy.

The St. Joseph Church Choir was one of the largest at its prime in the 1970s. The choir recorded a record of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom with the arrangent by renowned liturgical composer Andriy Hnatyshyn, which was specially written for St. Joseph parish. The choir also performed at many functions around Chicagoland. The first choir director at St. Joseph the Betrothed Parish was Julian Pozniak who was followed by Jaroslaw Stefaniuk, who also conducted a women's choir at the parish.
